By Land
The most prevalent overland routes between India and Nepal are Birgunj-Raxaul, Sunauli-Gorakhpur and Kakarbhitta-Siliguri. In case you're heading from Kathmandu or Pokhara to Delhi or somewhere else in north-western India, then Sunauli is the easy entry point; to reach Calcutta or most of eastern cities in India. Birgunj is the best place to get Bihar; and to get to Darjeeling, one can travel via Kakarbhitta. It's fairly convenient to travel between Calcutta and Dhaka overland via Kakarbhitta. The only border crossing currently opens between India and Pakistan is between Lahore and Amritsar. This crossing can be done either by train or by road. All other border intersections are by road only. A bus service between Lahore and Delhi, operates four times a week, is now up and running.
